So you found the area in the map for KINGMAN Arizona:
Why was this location chosen as the main setting for the book?
The answer lies in many layers- One being the name KINGMAN- The king of men is significant in terms of the central thread to the plot. The Great plan by GIL - 'The new King of men'
The second reason for KINGMAN was the famous UFO incident that happened out near Frenchman Flats in 1953. The book needed a real, factual basis.
Next the location needed to be in the desert, out near key airbases and real secret bases- the secret bases are key to the plot and to the reason for why Ellis was lost in the desert.
The location needed to have a regional Trauma center and residency program - The KRMC is factually the ONLY rural hospital with such a program
One final bonus was the name of one of the street -"Secret Pass". It features in the book.
Of note is the location of "Frenchman Flats". The real location of this place is near Indian Springs Nevada. However the name resonated well and ties to the mythology of the Kingman crash- so I moved the location to nearer to Kingman, by naming the area Frenchman Flats. I hope no one in Nevada minds me moving an old nuclear weapons testing ground.
